The program was graced by the presence of Sh. Harbinder Singh, ADG (Retd.) ISS Officer, NSO, Dr. Narinder Kumar, HoD , Department of Statistics, Panjab University and Ms. Sheenam Jain, Assistant Director, PIB Chandigarh as guest speakers.
In his welcome address, Sh. Deepak Mehra, Deputy Director General, NSO(FOD), RO Chandigarh welcomed all the guest speakers and officers/officials and interns from Panjab University and briefed about the biography of Shri. P.C. Mahalanobis and his contributions in the field of statistics.
Sh. Harbinder Singh, ADG (Retd.) ISS Officer, NSO inaugurated the event and also gave details of contributions of Prof. P.C. Mahalanobis in Indian Statistical System. He stressed upon the need to strengthen the statistical system in country. For this purpose, he opined that the theme of 20th Statistics Day i.e. “Unlocking the Potential of Administrative Data” would go a long way in achieving the goals.
The objective of this day was to create public awareness especially among the younger generation for drawing inspiration from Late Professor P.C. Mahalanobis about the role of statistics in socio-economic planning and policy formulation.
The function was attended by around 80 Officers & Officials and interns from Panjab University engaged in the field of Statistics.
To make the event successful, quiz competition was also organized in which interns from Panjab University and Survey Enumerators actively participated. Certificates were awarded to top three winners of quiz competition.
The event ended by Vote of thanks to all the guest speakers, Regional Head, Officers and Officials of NSO and interns from Panjab University.
