SDM Panchkula Mannat Rana Calls for Stronger Govt-Media Coordination and People-Led Movement

The Press Information Bureau (PIB), Chandigarh, organised ‘VARTA – A Media Workshop’ at Panchkula today, with an aim to strengthen coordination between the Government and the media and facilitate greater awareness about key public welfare initiatives.
Mrs. Mannat Rana, SDM, Panchkula, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, while Ms. Sapna, Deputy Director, Press Information Bureau, Chandigarh, presided over the Media Workshop. Shri Harvinder Singh, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Haryana State Narcotics Control Bureau (HSNCB), Shri Pradeep Kumar, Solid Waste Management Expert / CTL, Municipal Corporation, Panchkula, and Mrs. Savita Nehra, DPO, ICDS, Panchkula, were among the key speakers during different sessions of the ‘VARTA’. Viney Vats, DIPRO, Panchkula, was also present during the occasion.
The workshop brought together media representatives and officials for focused discussions on issues of public importance, including Nasha Mukt Bharat, Solid Waste Management and Poshan Abhiyan.
The programme commenced with the lighting of the lamp, followed by a welcome address and an introduction to the concept of the Media Workshop by Ms. Sapna, Deputy Director, PIB Chandigarh.
In her keynote address, Mrs. Mannat Rana, SDM, Panchkula, highlighted the importance of effective communication and coordination between government agencies and the media in ensuring that information about Government initiatives reaches citizens accurately and effectively. She called for stronger coordination between the Government and the media. Besides, she said that all the initiatives can only be successful if people participate in them and they turn out to be people-led movements.
During the first technical session on ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat’, Shri Harvinder Singh, DSP, Haryana State Narcotics Control Bureau (HSNCB), focused on the objectives and efforts under the Nasha Mukt Bharat campaign and the importance of collective participation in addressing substance abuse. He further elaborated on the swift action taken by Haryana State NCB against drugs trafficking.
The session on ‘Solid Waste Management’ was addressed by Shri Pradeep Kumar, Solid Waste Management Expert / CTL, Municipal Corporation, Panchkula. This covered issues related to effective waste management and the need for responsible waste segregation and disposal practices. He also appealed to people to participate in the 4-wheel system and segregate waste into four categories — dry waste, wet waste, Contaminated/Sanitary Waste, and Biomedical & Hazardous Waste. Likewise, he informed that they have added a new form in the waste management framework by adding a new ‘R’, making it ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Re-buy’.
In the last session on ‘Poshan Abhiyan’, Mrs. Savita Nehra, District Project Officer, ICDS, Panchkula, highlighted the importance of nutrition-related interventions and awareness in improving health and nutritional outcomes, particularly among deprived and rural women and children. She also praised the initiative taken by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, who believed that the foundation should always be strong for a better future. She recalled that the Prime Minister started Poshan Abhiyan back on 8th March 2018, on the occasion of Women’s Day, because he considered women as the strong foundation for society and thus brought this initiative to enhance the ecosystem related to Poshan.
Each thematic session was followed by an interaction and Q&A, enabling media representatives to seek information and discuss issues directly with the respective subject experts.
The workshop concluded with a felicitation ceremony, followed by a vote of thanks by Mr. Rajan Nath from PIB Chandigarh. The event provided a platform for meaningful interaction between government representatives, subject experts and the media, with discussions centred on strengthening public awareness and communication regarding important Government initiatives.
