Dedicated to the 350th Martyrdom Anniversary year of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji, a unique book published by Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle, Ludhiana, “Sikhs in Banking-The Legacy of Trust, Excellence, Economic Impact in India and Beyond” authored by Gurmit Singh, a founder member of the circle was presented by him to his Alma Mater SCD. Govt College Ludhiana. The book has many chapters written by its alumni who are also bankers and economists. Principal Gursharanjit Singh Sandhu especially honoured the author in presence of alumni association executive members and some teachers. Those present were O P Verma , K B Singh, Navdeep Singh, Brij B Goyal, Prof Geetanjli Pabreja, Dr Sajla, Prof Dr Poonam Sapra, Dr Ira, Dr Vikas Loomba and Prof Nidhi.
Goyal said that this book is rooted firmly in Sikh history and Gurbani is also a civilisational narrative that links Sikh spiritual philosophy with economic development, institutional integrity, leadership and social responsibility. The work presents banking as a value-driven profession and a vehicle for social transformation rather than a purely profit-oriented activity. OP Verma appreciated the section of The Spirit of Seva in the book which documents the social, educational, humanitarian, and religious contributions of Sikh bankers during service and after retirement. Gurmit Singh earlier authored a book on Dr Manmohan Singh our former Prime Minister.
