The Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Ministry of Communications, Punjab Licensed Service Area (LSA), today organized a press conference at the Telecom Exchange Building, Sector 70, Mohali, to highlight its citizen-centric digital initiatives with a special focus on the Sanchar Saathi Portal.
The press conference was chaired by Shri Anil Kumar Ranjan, Additional Director General (Telecom), Punjab LSA, and was attended by representatives from Prasar Bharti, PIB Chandigarh, All India Radio, DD News, Fastway, and other prominent media organizations.
The briefing centered on the role of Sanchar Saathi in strengthening telecom security, preventing telecom-related fraud, and empowering citizens to report misuse of telecom resources. Shri Ranjan emphasized the need for wide dissemination of information related to Sanchar Saathi so that more citizens can benefit from the Department’s digital safety initiatives and safeguard themselves against emerging telecom and cyber threats.
The event commenced with a keynote address by Shri Balvinder Singh, Deputy Director General (Administration), who provided an overview of the functioning of the Department of Telecommunications, Punjab LSA, and its role in ensuring secure and reliable telecom services.
Subsequently, Shri Gurjinder Paul Singh, Deputy Director General (Security), delivered a detailed presentation on the citizen-centric services being implemented by DoT Punjab LSA. He also introduced the Sanchar Saathi Portal and Mobile App, explaining how the platform enables users to protect their mobile connections and report suspected fraud.
About Sanchar Saathi Portal
The Sanchar Saathi Portal is a flagship initiative of the Department of Telecommunications designed to enhance consumer protection and promote transparency in the telecom ecosystem. The portal integrates multiple services, including:
– CEIR (Central Equipment Identity Register): Enables blocking and tracing of lost or stolen mobile phones to prevent misuse.
– TAFCOP (Telecom Analytics for Fraud Management and Consumer Protection): Allows citizens to check the number of mobile connections issued in their name and report unauthorized connections.
– Chakshu Facility: Provides a platform to report suspected fraud communications such as phishing calls, fake SMS, and fraudulent WhatsApp messages.
– Digital Intelligence Platform (DIP): Facilitates coordination among banks, financial institutions, and law enforcement agencies to combat cyber and financial fraud.
Since its launch, the Sanchar Saathi Portal has made a significant impact in Punjab, with the following outcomes:
– 1,16,560 lost or stolen mobile devices blocked
– 82,087 devices traced
– 14,010 devices successfully recovered
– 8,81,203 requests received to check mobile connections, of which 8,14,568 have been resolved
– 4,51,067 mobile numbers disconnected under “Not My Number”
– 1,94,673 mobile numbers disconnected under “Number Not Required”
The Sanchar Saathi initiative reinforces the Government of India’s commitment to providing secure, transparent, and reliable telecom services for India’s billion-plus mobile subscribers.
