Fulfilling the long pending demand of the residents to streamline movement of traffic at Basti Jodhewal chowk, Mayor Principal Inderjit Kaur, Ludhiana East MLA Daljit Singh Bhola Grewal, Ludhiana Central MLA Ashok Prashar Pappi and Ludhiana North MLA Madan Lal Bagga’s representative councillor Aman Bagga launched the automated traffic lights at Basti Jodhewal chowk on Tuesday.
Basti Jodhewal chowk is one of the busiest junctions of the city and installation of sensor based traffic lights will bring a huge relief to the residents from traffic jams.
Mayor Inderjit Kaur stated that Basti Jodhewal chowk was in dire need of upgradation but the previous governments ignored the issue due to which it was among the black spots in the city where accidents have been reported in the past. Soon after the general house of MC was formed, they have made regular efforts to rectify this black spot to facilitate the residents. They have also tied up with the traffic police and automated traffic lights have been installed to ensure smooth movement of traffic.
The sensor based traffic lights will detect the volume of traffic at the junction and will accordingly adjust the timer to ensure smooth flow of traffic at the junction.
Automated traffic lights are being installed by the civic body at 42 points in the city at a cost of around Rs 7.11 crore. In the coming days, automated traffic lights would also be installed at Tajpur road chowk, Tibba road among other areas.
Mayor Inderjit Kaur, MLA Grewal, MLA Prashar and Bagga stated that the state government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is continuously working to upgrade road infrastructure to ensure safety of residents. Different initiatives are being taken in every sector to facilitate the residents at ground level.
