Ludhiana, ( Gurvinder sidhu)
Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal has called for strict enforcement to prevent stubble burning in the district and directed the officers to adopt a zero-tolerance approach and conduct joint patrolling with the police.
SSP Khanna Ashwini Gotyal also ordered police officers to maintain round-the-clock vigilance in the fields to prevent this practice.
During a meeting with all SDMs, DSPs, cluster and nodal officers at Bachat Bhawan, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized the need to lay major focus on curbing stubble burning. He asked the officers to conduct intensive meetings with village sarpanches and organize foot marches in the villages with police force.
Jorwal stressed the importance of cluster/nodal officers moving into the villages from this week, accompanied by police officers, to discourage stubble burning through their presence. He mentioned the need for joint patrolling by civil and police officials to deter people from burning residue in the villages and take preventive action against violators to send a strong message. Additionally, public announcements through Gurdwaras, temples, and moving vehicles must also be used to effectively monitor and prevent farm fires.
The Deputy Commissioner also added that he and police chiefs will visit hotspots to sensitize farmers about the ill effects of stubble burning. He urged farmers to play a positive role in curbing stubble burning and asked them to avail the subsidies on machinery for crop residue management. He also announced that the district administration will facilitate farmers, villages, and Panchayats with zero stubble burning cases.
Later, SSP Ashwini Gotyal instructed DSPs and SHOs to maintain continuous vigil in their areas, alongside civil officers, until the harvesting gets over to prevent residue burning. She emphasized that preventing any cases of stubble burning should be their top priority and proposed implementing a beat system to reduce farm fires.
The meeting was attended by prominent figures including ADC Anmol Singh Dhaliwal and others.
