Swachhata Hi Seva 6.0: PIB, CBC Chandigarh Undertake Series of Cleanliness Drives to Promote Jan Bhagidari
Chandigarh:
The Press Information Bureau (PIB), Chandigarh, and the Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Chandigarh, are actively participating in Swachhata Hi Seva 6.0, undertaking a series of cleanliness and awareness activities aimed at strengthening the spirit of cleanliness, civic responsibility and “Jan Bhagidari” among employees as well as the wider community.
The campaign, which commenced on September 17, 2026, will continue till October 2, 2026, and focuses on encouraging people to adopt cleanliness not merely as a campaign-driven activity but as an integral part of everyday life. Through a range of initiatives, the campaign seeks to reinforce the message that a clean environment is a shared responsibility that requires sustained participation from every section of society.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Pritam Singh, Director, PIB Chandigarh, emphasised that cleanliness must become a continuous practice rather than remain restricted to special occasions or designated cleanliness drives.
“Cleanliness should never be treated as a one-day activity or a campaign that we undertake only on a particular occasion. It has to become a daily habit and, more importantly, a part of our collective way of life. When every individual takes responsibility for keeping their home, workplace, surroundings and public spaces clean, the impact goes far beyond the immediate environment. It creates a culture of discipline, responsibility and respect for our surroundings. Through sustained efforts and active participation by everyone, we can contribute towards building a cleaner, healthier and more beautiful environment for ourselves and for generations to come,” he said.
Similarly, Ms. Sapna, Deputy Director, PIB Chandigarh, highlighted the importance of collective participation in creating healthier and cleaner surroundings, stressing that even small individual efforts can bring about meaningful change when undertaken together.
“I firmly believe that keeping our surroundings clean is not only about creating a visually cleaner environment, but also about creating a healthier and better place to breathe, live and grow. Clean surroundings directly contribute to our well-being and reflect the sense of responsibility we have towards our community. As our Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has repeatedly emphasised, the spirit of “Jan Bhagidari” can turn individual efforts into a powerful collective movement. If we come together with the resolve of ‘Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath’, even a small contribution of our time can create a significant and lasting impact. The real strength of Swachhata Abhiyan lies in making cleanliness a people’s movement, where every citizen feels responsible and every effort counts,” she said.
As part of the campaign, a series of activities have been organised at the office premises to promote cleanliness, awareness and responsible waste management.
The activities commenced with a meeting on September 18, 2026, which began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, followed by a Swachhata pledge to reaffirm the commitment towards maintaining cleanliness from individual homes and workplaces to streets and public spaces.
Several initiatives were subsequently undertaken, including the shifting of stacks of old newspapers to the basement and cleaning of the area, distribution of Dettol handwash, masks, hand gloves and dusters among employees and the Safai Mitras, cleaning and organising of almirahs and storage areas, and setting up of a poster exhibition in the corridors of the office premises to spread awareness about cleanliness and sanitation.
The campaign also recognised the contribution of the Safai Mitras, who play an important role in maintaining cleanliness across workplaces and public spaces. As a gesture of appreciation, the Safai Mitras were felicitated with bags, memento and certificates, acknowledging their dedicated services and contribution towards maintaining a clean and hygienic environment.
In another major outreach initiative, PIB and CBC Chandigarh, in collaboration with MY Bharat, engaged with young citizens to spread the message of Jan Bhagidari and encourage active participation of youth in the Swachhata campaign.
A cleanliness drive, Swachhata pledge and awareness rally were organised with students at the public ground near Shri Chaitanya Techno School, Sector 44, Chandigarh. The initiative provided a platform to sensitise young participants about the importance of maintaining cleanliness in their surroundings and encouraged them to become ambassadors of the Swachhata message within their homes, educational institutions and communities.
The participation of youth in such initiatives is aimed at nurturing a sense of civic responsibility from an early stage and transforming cleanliness into a collective social movement driven by awareness, participation and sustained action.
The campaign will continue with several activities scheduled over the coming days. These include a cleanliness drive in the parking area and near the entry gate of the office premises, as well as the plantation of 10 saplings within the office premises under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative.
A cleanliness drive will also be organised at Leisure Valley, Sector 10, Chandigarh, to reinforce the message of ‘Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath’ and encourage collective participation in maintaining public spaces.
In keeping with the principle of ‘Swachhata Se Samriddhi’, old newspapers collected during the cleanliness activities would also be sold for recycling, reinforcing the message of responsible waste management and demonstrating how waste material can be channelised towards productive use.
The series of activities will conclude on October 2, 2026, with a renewed pledge to promote cleanliness and carry forward the spirit of Swachhata beyond the campaign period.
Through Swachhata Hi Seva 6.0, PIB and CBC Chandigarh seek to reinforce the message that cleanliness is not merely the responsibility of a particular department, institution or group of people, but a collective responsibility that requires the active participation of every citizen. The campaign underscores the importance of converting awareness into action and making cleanliness a sustained habit and a shared social commitment.
