The Field Operations Division (FOD) of the National Statistics Office (NSO), functioning under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), Government of India, will undertake a series of important socio-economic surveys during June 2026 across selected areas in Chandigarh and Panchkula as part of its ongoing nationwide statistical data collection programme.

The National Statistics Office has been collecting information from households and establishments since 1950 and has played a vital role in developing a robust database on various socio-economic indicators. The information generated through these scientifically designed surveys serves as a critical input for planning, policy formulation, and evidence-based decision-making at both the national and state levels.

Data collection is carried out by trained NSO officials using hand-held digital devices (tablets) equipped with e-Sigma software and secure web-based platforms. The officials visit selected households, enterprises, villages, and urban blocks based on established scientific sampling methodologies. Information is collected from the head of the household or any knowledgeable household member in household surveys, while authorized representatives or owners provide information in enterprise surveys.

The NSO has reiterated that all information collected during the surveys is kept strictly confidential. The identity of participating households and enterprises is never disclosed in any report or publication, and the information is used exclusively for statistical purposes.

During June 2026, the NSO (FOD) will conduct the following surveys in selected locations of Chandigarh and Panchkula:

  • National Household Income Survey
  • Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS)
  • Annual Survey of Unincorporated Sector Enterprises (ASUSE)
  • National Household Travel Survey
  • Domestic Tourism Expenditure Survey
  • Consumer Price Index (CPI) Survey

The selected survey locations include areas such as Manimajra, Mauli Jagran, Daria, Burail, Rajeev Colony, Daddumajra Colony, Sectors 8/9, 15/16, 20, 22/23, 29, 35/36, 42, 45, 46/47, 50 and 52 in Chandigarh, as well as Kalka, Chandi Mandir, Sector-5, Sector-25, Sector-27, Housing Board Colony, Jaithal, Barwala and Mauli in Panchkula.

In addition, selected units are being approached from time to time for data collection relating to the Wholesale Price Index (WPI), Purchaser Price Index (PPI), Index of Industrial Production (IIP), Annual Survey of Incorporated Service Sector Enterprises (ASISSE), and the Rapid Survey of Functional Cooperatives (April–September 2026).

The Government of India appeals to all selected households, enterprises, establishments, and cooperative institutions to extend full cooperation to NSO survey officials and provide accurate and complete information. Active participation by citizens contributes significantly to informed policymaking, effective governance, and the overall development of the nation.
