As part of the ‘Sade Buzurg, Sada Maan’ campaign launched by the Punjab government to ensure welfare of elderly, the Department of Social Security and Women and Child Development and the district administration on Wednesday organised a Medical check-up, felicitation camps held under Sade Buzurg, Sada Maan program at Shree Vivekanand Swarg Ashram, Model Town.
District Social Security Officer Varinder Singh Tiwana informed that the camp witnessed a footfall of more than 950 participants. A total of 620 persons availed free/subsidized OPD consultations, while 120 beneficiaries received AYUSH medicines. Special focus was given to senior citizens, with 12 pension application forms processed, 30 Senior Citizen Cards issued, and over 150 queries related to pension and senior citizen schemes addressed. The camp also facilitated 10 legal aid interactions through DLSA and provided guidance to 70 members regarding Self-Help Groups (SHGs).
In addition, 75 participants attended a dedicated digital literacy session, 30 students benefited from an awareness session on scholarship schemes, and 75 elderly persons actively participated in the yoga and meditation session aimed at promoting physical and mental well-being. He added that the camp successfully brought essential government, health, legal, financial, and wellness services directly to the community, significantly easing access for senior citizens and other deserving groups in the region.
Tiwana further informed that similar camps will be held in Guru Amardas Old Age Home, Village Sarabha on Feb 11, Nishkam Seva Old Age Home, Village Behla on Feb 18 and Guru Nanak Charitable Trust, Gurmat Bhawan, Mullanpur on Feb 25. He appealed to all eligible beneficiaries to make maximum use of these camps.
