Sukhbir S Badal asks DGP to file an FIR against Patiala SSP Varun Sharma for subverting the democratic process in the Block Samiti and Zila Parishad elections.

Mullanpur Dakha/Ludhiana( Gurvinder sidhu) Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal today asked Punjab Police chief Gaurav Yadav to register a criminal case against Patiala SSP Varun Sharma for directing the district police officers to illegally detain opposition candidates and subvert the democratic process in the Block Samiti and Zila Parishad elections.

Boldly asserting that anyone trying to protect Varun Sharma would become a co-conspirator in his illegal actions and invite action on themselves, the SAD president said “we will not sit till we make the SSP pay for taking the law on to himself. We will file a formal application against the SSP. We will strive to get a free and fair probe done into the conference call done by him to all district police officers in which he asked them to prevent opposition candidates from reaching government offices to file their nominations by detaining them at their residence or enroute and even prevailing upon Returning Officers not to accept nomination papers of opposition candidates. By doing so the SSP has not only violated the oath of his office by acting as a stooge of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) but also the constitution. We will also approach the courts to ensure he is sent to jail as per law”.

Stating that SSP Varun Sharma made a call to all district police officers in an act of desperation, Mr Badal said “the AAP government realised that it was going to be obliterated in the polls and resorted to misusing the police force to rob the people of their franchise”.
Asserting that the rot had spread across the State with police officers taking “guidance” from AAP legislators to prevent opposition candidates from filing their nominations, Mr Badal said “officers indulging in such illegal acts should be ready to face the repercussions as per law”. He also appealed to the SAD rank and file to contest the Block Samiti and Zila Parishad elections with utmost vigour to ensure a resounding victory for the party.S Sukhbir Singh Badal also welcomed the former Zila Parishad chairman Parminder Singh Rangian into the party fold. The leaders present over there assured the party president that his homecoming will further strengthen the Shiromani Akali Dal in Gill and Dakha constituency. EOM
