Dr Jernail Singh Anand, President of the International Academy of Ethics, Chandigarh and an Alumnus of SCD Govt. College, Ludhiana, visited Serbia on 14th to 16th of Nov. on an invitation to deliver a Lecture on ‘The Dialectics of Spirituality and the Ethical Imperative’ by Matica Srpska, [Queen Bee], a literary and scientific organization based in Novi Sad. Dr. Dragan Stanic, Director, Matica Srpska and Dr. Maja Herman Sekulic, a Serbian literary Icon, had invited Dr. Anand to Serbia. The lecture attended by the faculty and several prominent scholars started with introduction by Dr. Dragan Stanic followed by Dr. Maja Herman Sekulic who introduced Dr. Anand’s phenomenal work [opus of 170 books] and its qualitative excellence.
In his address, Dr. Anand pointed out that spirituality has nothing to do with religiosity. It is the science of human interaction and recognizing our duties towards the Creation, so that we become a part of the great cosmic harmony. Referring to Bhagvad Gita, Dr. Anand said that human actions trap men, and humanity thinks it is an external fate, whereas the fact is that Fate is man’s own creation, it is the sum total of his own actions, from which there is no escape. He also attacked the corporatization of spirituality by the Spiritual Mafia of ‘Babas’ mushrooming in the country. Citing Guru Nanak Dev’s ‘Sidh Gosht’ [Discussion with the Sidhs] Dr. Anand, maintained that renunciation and running away from human duties was no spirituality, but a human sacrilege.
by Belgrade newspaper The News also interviewed Dr Anand was for his work and beliefs. Dr. Anand also visited the Poets’ Rock where his name has been engraved among the Poetry immortals. He was warmly received and honoured by the School Admn at Chachk, and by the Vice President of the Serbian Writers Association, which last year, honoured him with Charter of Morava Laureateship.
In Belgrade, Dr Anand had Poetry Reading at Serbian Writers Association which was attended by poetry buffs from far off places. The event was presided over by Dr Vidak, Vice President of the Association. Dr Maja Herman Sekulic, introduced Dr Anand and translated into Serbian the poems read out by Dr. Anand. Prof Anna translated Dr. Anand’s speech, followed by an elaborate dinner. Major figures of the literary world present at the function included Pra Milan Mladenovic, Slava Bozicevic, Anisija Crepovic, Bata Milanovic, Vidak Maslovaric and Lidija Bartus-Vasiljevic,Slobodan Djurovic
Prior to Serbia, Dr Anand was invited to Rome on [from 11th to 13th Nov.] by Federation Global Mexico and UNACCC where he was decorated with the Award of Honoris Causa doctorate degree and the international award Giants of Global Culture, at the Pontifical University,Auditorium, Rome.
This was Dr Anand’s second visit to Europe within a month after he was awarded the Seneca Award in Oct 2024 by the Academy of Philosophical Arts and Sciences, Bari (Italy). Already an Honorary Member of the Serbian Writers Association, Dr Anand has been offered Membership of the great organization of Serbia: Matica Srpska also.
Dr J S Ananad who has been an Alumni of SCD Government College, Ludhiana ha been congratulated by Alumni Association Organising secretary Brij Bhushan Goyal who also said that it’s for the first time that after Rabinder Nath Tagore some poet and philosopher from India has been honoured overseas. We are proud of his scholastic ability and humanistic touch in his writings.
