Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney conducted a meeting on Thursday to assess the progress of finalizing the lands for setting up Water Treatment Plants (WTPs) under the 24/7 canal-based water supply project in all Municipal Councils of the district. The project is a key initiative of the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and is being carried out under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme with the Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board as the executive agency.
During the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney discussed land finalization with Additional Deputy Commissioner (UD) Rupinder Pal Singh, District Development and Panchayats Officer (DDPO) Navdeep Kaur, officials of Sewerage Board, and executive officers of Municipal Councils, including Khanna, Doraha, Payal, Jagraon, Mullanpur Dakha, Samrala, Machhiwara, Raikot, Sahnewal, and Nagar Panchayats Malaud.
Sawhney mentioned that the land for WTPs in most of the councils has already been finalized, and the relevant departments are working to hand over the land as soon as possible. She requested a joint inspection by DDPO and EOs, along with officials of the Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board, in Sahnewal and Payal Municipal Councils to finalize the land by the following Tuesday.
The Deputy Commissioner clarified that the project is reviewed weekly and that work on the WTPs will commence soon.
Executive Engineers Balraj Singh Gill, Supinder Singh from Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board were also present.
