Atam Nagar MLA Kulwant Singh Sidhu on Monday strongly criticised the BJP-led Union Government over the continuous increase in petrol and diesel prices during the last few days, stating that the rising fuel costs have badly affected the common man and disrupted household budgets.
Addressing a press conference, the MLA alleged that inflation has “broken the back” of the public and people are struggling to manage their daily expenses. He said that instead of providing relief during difficult times, the Central Government has abandoned the common citizens. Kulwant Singh Sidhu said that it is the responsibility of the government to stand with people during periods of economic hardship, but the Modi-led government has completely failed in controlling inflation and providing relief to the masses.
The MLA further expressed concern over the upcoming paddy season, stating that farmers would now have to spend more on diesel for tractors, tubewells and other agricultural machinery. He warned that the rise in diesel prices would also lead to an increase in transportation costs, which would eventually push up the prices of vegetables, fruits, food grains and other essential commodities. He said that farmers, labourers, middle-class families and daily wage earners would be the worst affected by the continuous fuel price hike and demanded immediate intervention by the Union Government to provide relief to the people.
