Vigilance Bureau nabs ASI for taking Rs 21,000 bribe

Chandigarh::::::::::::: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its drive against corruption in the state, on Thursday has apprehended an Assistant Sub Inspector of Police (ASI) Bhola Singh (No.27/Sangrur), posted at police station City-1, Sangrur while accepting a bribe of Rs 21,000.
Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the state VB said the above mentioned accused has been arrested on a complaint lodged by Jagdeep Singh.
He further added that the complainant has approached the VB and informed that he got financed  Rs. 5,50,000 from his friend on interest to Jagraj Singh in lieu of purchasing a Truck from the later. Afterwards, when the complainant asked Jagraj Singh to return his loan money, he came to know that the said truck had already been transferred by Jagraj Singh in the name of Baljit Singh, a resident of village Andheri in Sangrur. Subsequently, the new owner gave a police complaint in the said police station and ASI Bhola Singh demanded Rs. 50,000 as bribe to investigate the matter. The complainant further informed that the said accused police personnel had agreed to take Rs 40,000 as bribe and taken Rs 19,000 in advance and now asking  for to provide the remaining balance of bribe of Rs 21000.
The spokesperson added that after preliminary verification of this complaint the VB team laid a trap and ASI Bhola Singh was arrested red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 21,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.
In this regard a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered at VB police station Patiala range.
The accused would be produced in the competent court tomorrow and further investigation into this case was under progress, he added.
