ADC reviews NCORD committee’s measures to curb drug menace

Ludhiana ( Gurvinder sidhu)

Additional Deputy Commissioner (G) Major Amit Sareen chaired a meeting of the District Level Committee under the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) to review steps taken to curb the drug menace in the district. The meeting was held in Bachat Bhawan.

During the meeting, Sareen asked the principals of schools and colleges to prepare a fortnightly calendar of activities aimed at creating awareness about the harmful effects of drugs with the goal of making Punjab a drug-free state. He suggested organizing stage plays, dramas, skits, or other activities to educate young people about the dangers of drugs. Schools, colleges, and nodal officers that effectively raise awareness will be recognized and awarded on October 2.

Sareen also encouraged them to share daily pictures and videos of their activities with his office. He instructed them to involve health and police officials in these activities to provide information on treatment options (OOAT centres), rehabilitation centres, and law enforcement actions against drug abuse. The objective is to turn this anti-drug campaign into a mass awareness program that will contribute to the elimination of drugs from the state.

The ADC directed the principals to arrange visits for 50 students from government schools to the office of DBEE, Partap Chowk, as well as enrolling them in the I-aspire and future tycoon programs. Furthermore, he instructed health authorities to ensure that prohibited drugs are not sold by any chemists, and that tobacco products are not sold within 100 meters of educational institutions.

Sareen also informed the attendees that Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann recently launched an Anti-drug Helpline and WhatsApp Chatbot (9779100200) and urged individuals to report drug peddlers through these channels. He emphasized that the drug supply has been significantly disrupted, and now it’s crucial to address the demand for drugs with the wholehearted support of the public.
