Alumni of SCD Govt College, Ludhiana in a virtual discussion while deeply mourning the air crash deaths in Ahmedabad have warned governments both the central and states who awaken from slumber post tragic accidents only.
Alumni who are spread over all the world are worried that incident has scared people about safety in air travel in Indian airlines and from Indian airports. They also feel strongly that airports areas periphery has been allowed for housing colonies unmindfully. India’s aviation regulator DGCA, though has ordered checking of systems and take-off parameters of all the Tatas owned Boeing 787 operated by Air India, but the ministry can’t escape responsibility of its laxity when fault lines were reported in ill-fated flight earlier also.
In view of this alumni are worried about the safety standards adherence about Halwara Airport in Punjab being opened for civil flights as the vicinity of airport area is getting urbanized fast. Further, Punjab Govt. is planning urbanization under GLADA to many more villages in this belt. Members rued that the politicians and governments are insensitive to public safety.
All the alumni Participants in the discussion were Prof I P Setia, Prof P K Sharma, Principal Manjit S. Sandhu, K B Singh , D K Mahajan , Col Pardeep S. Jawanda,Dr Sunil Chopra, Commander AS Jolly and Baldev Singh Garcha .Brij Bhushan Goyal, the organizing secretary said that politicians in the government must act as ombudsman on the public lives safety issues. Whole of nation is in serious trauma due to fault of airline and India’s aviation regulator, he said.
